FHS Alumni Scholarships Increased

FREDDIE BIRD

The FHS Alumni Association announced that all graduates holding an Alumni scholarship will be getting a raise next year,  thanks to the amazing generosity of Freddie donors!

With the Endowment level growing from $9,000 eighteen months ago to over $139,000 at the end of 2016,  the scholarships will be increased from the current $300 annually to $500 to $900 annually, for all awards made or renewed this year.

The larger awards are associated with the five Named Scholarships:   Class of ’47 – $900; Ula Weller Leedy ’35 – $800; Dr. William L. and Marietta Berger Mahaffey – $700; Richard K. Wilson ‘65 – $700; and Class of ’61 – $700.

From the beginning the three goals for the Fund Raising Campaign have been GUARANTEEMORELARGER. It is clear that these words motivated FHS Alumni and friends to pay it forward to help Freddies grads reach their dreams. Those three words are becoming a reality as all scholarships are GUARANTEED forever and the amounts to be awarded are now LARGER; the goal of more continues to be a work in progress.

The “Freddies Helping Freddies” campaign continues apace and is reaching out to secure additional donations and more sponsors for named scholarships.  A scholarship can be “named” with a donation of $10,000 or more. Matching grants are available from the Ariel Corporation Donor Advised Fund for donations of $10,000 or more from a single donor or a group of immediate family members. The Ariel match is for 50% of the donation and is administered by the Community Foundation of MV/KC.

The FHS Alumni Association encourages all alumni and friends to donate to the “Freddies Helping Freddies” campaign.  Donations can be made on-line on the Facebook page and web page, or via  checks payable to the “FHS Alumni Scholarship Fund” and mailed to the Community Foundation of Mt. Vernon/Knox County, P.O. Box 1270, Mt. Vernon, OH  43050.
