Fredericktown FFA sent a team of four to compete in the District 7 FFA Ag Sales Contest. The event was held at Amanda Clearcreek High School.
This event consists of a test, sales presentation, and practicums. The exam is a series of online questions regarding sales related topics, including the sales process, role of sales in the agriculture industry, customer service, and visual presentation of products. For the sales presentation, members chose agricultural products and come up with a company that will be selling the items. They create an informational board and potentially other visual aids (such as a business card, model of the objects being sold, and appropriate paperwork).
Each contestant has 12 minutes to present and attempt to sell their product to the judges. This year, the practicum dealt with order taking and customer service. For this portion of the event, members were given a scenario for which they had to respond to with a sales pitch. Students received the materials and information necessary for this practice 10 minutes in advance and were given an additional 12 minutes for their response. The goal of participation in the competition is to teach students various marketing techniques that they can utilize in the future to become profitable. Teams are made up of 4 members and a team’s score is the compilation of all of the member’s individual scores.
The team did a great job, taking second in the district and qualifying for the opportunity to compete at the state competition.
Team members were Courtney Ballinger, Haley Rook, Holly McClay, and Ryan Matthews. Ryan won first in the event individually. Holly received third place individually and Courtney placed sixth. Fredericktown FFA Advisor is Debra Burden.
