Kenyon music department presents fall concerts

GAMBIER, Ohio — The Kenyon College Department of Music will present a series of concerts this fall that highlight a variety of musical genres. All events are free and open to the public. For more information, call the Department of Music at 740-427-5197.

Events include:
* Saturday, Oct. 14: Kenyon’s Symphonic Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Professor of Music Dane Heuchemer, presents its Family Weekend Concert at 2 p.m. in Rosse Hall, 105 College Drive.
* Saturday, Oct. 21: The Warner Concert Series, sponsored by the Kenyon Department of Music and the Charlotte Warner Chamber Music Fund, presents Chanticleer, an acclaimed male vocal group based in San Francisco, at 8 p.m. in Rosse Hall. The 12-voice ensemble is known for its original interpretations of vocal literature, from Renaissance to jazz to gospel.
* Sunday, Oct. 22: The Warner Concert Series presents a workshop titled “Comforting the Dying with Song: Historical Uses of Palliative Music,” at 3 p.m in Storer Hall’s Brandi Recital Hall, 105 College Drive. Elaine Stratton Hild will follow the methods historians use to realize songs from manuscripts and explore medieval rituals and customs. This workshop includes performances by Kenyon College singers.
* Sunday, Oct. 29: Antoine Clark, adjunct instructor of music, presents a clarinet recital at 7 p.m. in Storer Hall’s Brandi Recital Hall. Clark is the founding artistic and music director of the McConnell Arts Center Chamber Orchestra, among other accomplishments.
* Friday, Nov. 3: The Kenyon College Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Professor of Music Ted Buehrer, presents its fall concert at 8 p.m. in Rosse Hall.
* Sunday, Nov. 12: Kenyon’s Opera and Music Theater Workshop, under the direction of Jennifer Marcellana, adjunct instructor of voice, presents a “Music Theater Cabaret” at 2 p.m. in Storer Hall’s Brandi Recital Hall.
* Tuesday, Nov. 28: Kenyon’s Gamelan Ensemble, under the direction of Maria Mendonça, the James D. and Cornelia W. Ireland Associate Professor of Music, presents its fall concert at 7:30 p.m. in Storer Hall’s Brandi Recital Hall.
* Saturday, Dec. 2: Kenyon’s Chamber Singers and Community Choir, under the direction of Professor of Music Benjamin Locke, present their winter concert at 8 p.m. in Rosse Hall.
* Sunday, Dec. 3: Kenyon’s Symphonic Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Professor of Music Dane Heuchemer, presents its winter concert at 3 p.m. in Rosse Hall.
